10 Things You (probably) Shouldn't Buy Used

I saw a list like this somewhere, and I decided to make my own, less serious (but still deadly serious), list. This is partly with the idea that Christmas is coming up but mostly for pure entertainment.

10. Laptop - aren't these things pretty much out of date the day after you buy them new?

9. Light Bulbs - probably already burnt out... I wonder how much I could make on eBay...

8. Books - college students like to buy used books, but then they're just all... used... folded pages, wrinkled covers... torn stuff... missing pages... writing in them... [shiver]

7. Mattresses - kind of hard to really wash those things... just think about it...

6. DVDs/CDs - why would somebody want to get rid of them? My parents still have a ton (perhaps literally) of old records... people don't throw out old music/movies unless there's something wrong with it

5. Swimsuits/Lingerie/Underwear - do I really need to explain this one?

4. Software - legality? Not having those product codes gets to be a real pain...

3. Food - why buy it? If you want it used, you can just rummage through the garbage... or... (more literally)... the sewer

2. Toothbrush - I like my toothbrushes nice and new, thanks.

1. Toilet Paper

Good list for the most part but I wouldn't have put 1 or 2 of those on my list.

First the iffy one: Laptops can be purchased used and used for non-intensive applications or for simple stuff like remote desktop. For the most part, I wouldn't buy a used laptop.

Books, however, are a different issue. While textbooks tend to have a ton of writing, highlighting, missing pages, etc...I have found that used novels are almost always perfectly fine. Occasionally they look like they've been read through a couple times, but no more damage than is done by flipping pages or having it sit on a shelf for a while. I have purchased more used novels than new novels with no issues.

For me, I take obsessive care of my books... no bent pages... no crease in the spine... not a mark in them... textbooks, novels, it doesn't matter... anything else really bothers me... (the book thing is probably mostly a personality quirk--whatever)

Haha. That was really funny...but also useful! I agree with most of them. And I do think the book thing is a personality quirk. My textbooks I didn't care about...my novels however are a different story for the most part!
